Three GLP-1 medications now carry an FDA-approved indication for cardiovascular risk reduction: Wegovy (March 2024, in adults with overweight/obesity + established CVD), Ozempic and Trulicity (in type 2 diabetes). Victoza also holds an older CV indication. The SELECT trial (NEJM 2023) drove the Wegovy approval — a 20% MACE reduction over ~33 months independent of diabetes status.

SGLT2 inhibitors
Empagliflozin, dapagliflozin — independent CV + kidney benefit in diabetic patients. Often combined with GLP-1.
Lifestyle (Mediterranean / DASH)
150–300 min/week activity + tobacco cessation + weight management. Strongest non-pharma CV intervention.
