Patient Assistance Programs for GLP-1 medications
If you're uninsured or underinsured, you may qualify for free Wegovy, Ozempic, Mounjaro, Zepbound, Trulicity, Saxenda, or other GLP-1 medications through manufacturer-run patient assistance programs (PAPs). Most cover incomes up to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level — about $60,000 for a single person.
What are patient assistance programs?
Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs) are manufacturer-run charity programs that provide free or low-cost prescription medications to uninsured or underinsured patients who meet income and clinical criteria. They are funded by the drug manufacturer (not the government) and exist primarily so patients prescribed expensive specialty medications can access them when private insurance is unavailable.
For GLP-1 medications, three programs cover most of the market: NovoCare (Novo Nordisk — Ozempic, Wegovy, Saxenda, Rybelsus, Victoza), Lilly Cares Foundation (Eli Lilly — Mounjaro, Zepbound, Trulicity), and AZ&Me (AstraZeneca — Byetta, Bydureon BCise).
Who typically qualifies
- US citizens or legal residents
- Household income at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level (~$60,000 single, ~$125,000 family of 4)
- No private prescription drug insurance (some programs include Medicare Part D members at 500% FPL)
- Not enrolled in Medicaid (which has its own coverage rules)
- Have an active prescription from a US-licensed provider

- Active DEA number for controlled substances
- Diagnosis code (ICD-10) for the prescribed indication
