What Pemvidutide is
Pemvidutide is Altimmune’s GLP-1/glucagon dual agonist, developed for both obesity and MASH (metabolic-associated steatohepatitis, a serious fatty-liver disease). Its balanced design and the lean-mass-preservation signal in its trials are what set it apart, but it is at Phase 2 and is not approved or available.
Mechanically, Pemvidutide is a balanced 1:1 GLP-1 and glucagon receptor dual agonist, given once weekly by injection.
What the trials show
In the Phase 2 MOMENTUM obesity trial, pemvidutide 2.4 mg produced 15.6% average weight loss at 48 weeks versus about 2.2% on placebo, with a notable finding that only about 22% of the weight lost was lean mass. In the Phase 2b IMPACT trial for MASH, it resolved the disease in roughly 52–59% of patients versus about 20% on placebo at 24 weeks.
Can you get Pemvidutide yet?
Pemvidutide is not available. It is still in Phase 2 for both obesity and liver disease, with no Phase 3 begun and no FDA application filed. It holds Fast Track designation for MASH and alcohol use disorder, but Fast Track is only a review-process status — it is not approval and does not make the drug available.
Two honest points: the 15.6% figure is from a mid-stage (Phase 2) trial, and in the MASH trial pemvidutide hit one primary endpoint (disease resolution) but missed the other co-primary (fibrosis improvement) at 24 weeks. Fast Track designation must not be mistaken for approval.
