Why GLP-1 medications for Type 2 Diabetes
GLP-1 receptor agonists lower HbA1c by 1.0-2.0 percentage points on average, promote weight loss, and carry cardiovascular benefits validated in dedicated outcomes trials. Evidence grade: A (level 1, multiple RCTs and meta-analyses). The ADA Standards of Care 2025 list GLP-1 RAs (or GLP-1/GIP dual agonists like tirzepatide) as preferred when glycemic, weight, or CV/renal goals are not met on metformin. Always paired with diet, activity, and ongoing labs — not standalone therapy.
