Why GLP-1 medications for Prediabetes
No GLP-1 drug carries an FDA prediabetes indication. However, in obese prediabetic adults, Wegovy and Zepbound are approved on the basis of BMI/comorbidity criteria, and both have been shown in trial post-hoc analyses to convert prediabetes back to normoglycemia in the majority of treated patients. Evidence grade: B (extrapolation from RCT subgroups). Lifestyle therapy and metformin remain first-line per ADA. GLP-1 use specifically for prediabetes is off-label and should be discussed with a physician.
